Best Heckling Moments of 2000
5 When A-Rod returned to Safeco Field as a Ranger, the fans emptied fake dollar bills bearing Rodriguez's likeness onto the field from the upper decks as Rodriguez came to the plate for his first at-bat. One fan sat directly behind the Ranger on-deck circle and held out a fishing pole with a dollar bill attached to the end of it as Rodriguez took his warm-up cuts, drawing cheers from fans nearby.
4White Sox fans took their frustration out on shortstop Royce Clayton, who struggled to hit his body temperature in 2001. He came to the plate at one point in the season batting .099 when he singled up the middle. The fans gave him a mock standing ovation and chanted "MVP! MVP

The Dodgers asked Kevin Malone to resign after he threatened to fight a Padres' fan who heckled Gary Sheffield during a game. Jim Esterbrooks, a San Diego season-ticket holder, says Malone began arguing with him Saturday in the first inning of a Padres' 5-4 victory at Qualcomm Stadium. Esterbrooks and others seated in a section behind home plate said Malone challenged him to a fight in defense of Sheffield. ``I hear an individual fan speaking inappropriately about one of our players, the organization and me,'' Malone told the Los Angeles Times. ``He was loud, belligerent, obnoxious and rude. He knew who I was, and I didn't know that at the time.'' Malone said he realized Esterbrooks recognized him when he made a comment about ``Dodger Boy,'' a nickname Malone gave himself in a radio interview.

Chipper "Larry" Jones got a heavy dose of New York fanfare when the Braves' paid a visit to Shea. In the first game, an effigy of him was being strangled in the crowd. Later in the hotel he complained of "goofballs" running through the halls screaming his name, forcing chipper to remain in his room except for his trips to the ballpark.

The Twins nearly had to forfeit a victory over the Yankees when fans in the left-field seats pelted former Twin Chuck Knoblauch with garbage. The fans in Minnesota certainly haven't forgotten Knoblauch, who whined his way right out of town three years ago. Nearly 40 fans were aligned in the front row of the general-admission seating in left field wearing single-lettered T-shirts that spelled out "Watch Your Back Chuck, We're Everywhere."
